Character, competitiveness, unselfishness and work ethic sum up some of the top qualities you will find in Jose Duarte. For these qualities and a ton of integrity, Journeyman Basketball welcomes Jose Duarte into the Hall of Fame.
Let it be said first that Journeyman cannot take the credit for this fine young man. We have had a solid history of successful Duarte’s at Journeyman. We consider ourselves the benefactors of good parental coaching. Jose, or “Joey,” is no exception. Joey helped every teammate he has ever been associated with understand that they are a part of what’s going on. He never allows them to get overlooked and ensures they all get a chance to succeed. He adapted to Journeyman concepts effortlessly because these were characteristics he was taught beforehand. Journeyman simply provided him a place to use them.
Some of Jose’s individual achievements include JJE-52 Division 2 Most Valuable Player co-recipient, JJE-59 Division 1 Best Defensive Player, SJE-61 Senior Division Best Defensive Player, SJE-62 Senior Division All-Star Game Most Valuable Player and SJE-70 Team Leader Award Recipient. Jose also achieved 6 Career Double Doubles, earned POG honors 20 times and has been named a YAMO All-Star 6 times! These achievements, although great, don’t quite explain his superb IQ and team play. Joey understands the game like a true point guard. Here at Journeyman, we don’t use those words often when delivering compliments. But here it is well deserved. Joey facilitates a team as well as our top guards of the past 25 years. He does this while understanding defense, along with the ability to create cohesiveness during a long Journeyman session.
Joey, we hope you continue to visit us when your schedule allows. We will continue to use your name when talking about team dedication, unselfishness and defense. We will continue to appreciate the wealth of integrity that your family has provided to us. Please join us in congratulating Jose Duarte, a true Journeyman.
